Royal Blues

It would appear that her majesty is not amused by the amount of alcoholic consumption of some of her royal household which has led Queen Elizabeth to close down an in-house pub based at Buckingham palace. It would seem that the predominantly bachelor lifestyle of many of the footmen and butlers mixed with a level of boredom has encouraged a drinking culture. However help is at hand through the Palace’s ‘employee assistance programme’, where counselling is now being provided to those with drink and other problems [Source: www.londonnet.co.uk].

I have worked for many years for a number of Employee Assistance Programmes (EAP’s) to help employees suffering from stresses in the workplace, or personal problems that are impacting on their ability to work productively. Generally this consists of six to eight face to face sessions, each about one hour in duration. Although I would prefer in many cases to work for a much longer period of time with clients, I have been pleasantly surprised by the distinct improvements for many. If you work for a reasonably sized organisation, including most Government departments, it is likely that you will have access to an EAP as part of your employment benefits. If not, why not encourage your boss to consider it – a happy worker is far more useful!
Just so you don’t think the queen is a total party-pooper, it has been reported that the employees' restaurant will at least serve “a glass of wine on the queen's birthday and that of her husband Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh.” Three cheers!!!
